Greetings from Hyperspace!

We overcame countless challenges in getting the show together, and on
July 19 the Scratch Art exhibition opened at the Canvas L.A. Gallery
in Los Angeles. Featuring over 300 original pieces of scratchboard
art, this is the final exhibition before the collection is returned
to the artists and we move on to our next project. The show is truly
epic: although the size and medium of each piece is the same, there
is every style and technique you could imagine represented there. If
you are in the LA area or even just passing through, be sure to treat
yourself to what is one of the most creative spectacles we have seen
in a long time. In addition, there are a number of scratchboard
panels hanging at the gallery that are meant to be scratched on by
visiting guests and artists; already there are some exciting and
unexpected compositions emerging from the flat black foundation that
scratchboards provide. These panels will be auctioned off at the end
of the show and the proceeds will go to Little Kids Rock, an LA based
charity that provides musical education to underprivileged kids. Drop
by and contribute some of your artistic mojo to this spontaneous
expression of creative group energy!

This exhibition was also published as a small hardcover book (Scratch
Art, Proton Press, 2008, $40) that is available through our online
store or at the gallery. If you are in the LA area, you can save on
shipping by picking up the book at the show. It's a powerhouse
collection, showing most of the pieces at actual size. Many of the
originals are still available for sale, and some of these are going
for very reasonable prices; if you are curious to know the
availability of any piece in the book, you can contact their creative
director Olivia Miner at olivia@canvasla.com.

During the opening exhibition, an LA based media group called
Vimby.com came by and shot some video; they made a fun and
graphically rich short documentary (about 3 minutes long) about the
event.

if you want to see what you're missing. The show will come
down on August 10, so experience it while you can!

After 5 years of relative silence, Guy Aitchison is finally holding
another educational seminar for tattooists. He had stopped hosting
them at tattoo conventions largely because he felt that the
convention environment was too distracting for the long-format type
of class that he feels the subject matter calls for. This class will
be held the weekend of September 27-28 at the Hyatt Regency Downtown
in Columbus, Ohio- the same hotel where the Hell City Tattoo Fest is
normally held every Spring. It will be 2 days long, and will cover
many aspects of successful tattoo design and application. All
participants are expected to bring their portfolios, which will be
evaluated in the class environment. There will be a number of hands-
on exercises as well, giving attendees a chance to put many of these
ideas into practice. The class is limited to 30 artists, and is
already more than halfway sold out. To register, contact Jason at
customerservice.hyperspace@gmail.com. Tuition is $350 per person.

Stay cool, and we'll be in touch soon!
