Greetings from Hyperspace Studios!
We've got some exciting things happening this month in Hyperspace. First on the list is "Scratch Art", a group art show and book project of scratchboard art that we are organizing. We chose this unusual medium as it parallels so much with aspects of tattooing. Like tattooing, it is an unforgiving medium that does not allow for erasing; we also chose this theme because of the irony of reference to "scratch" artists in tattooing. Amusingly, so many of us are far from scratch artists; this industry has grown artistically and the awareness of true artists in the tattoo field is undeniable.
The selected works will be exhibited in a group show that will be featured at several major tattoo conventions, and will be printed in a hardcover book put out on Proton Press. Click here for more information about getting involved. This project is open to all tattoo artists, and we are interested in seeing every artist express themselves in their own unique style.
Many of the heavyweights in the business are already working on their boards, including artists from all over the world. We are waiting for packages from artists like Nick Baxter and Kurt Wiscombe, who finished their boards before we even did. Don't miss a chance to be part of this tattoo community group project!
Next on the list is an important new DVD we are offering at our new improved online store: "Standards of Practice: Infection Control for the Modification Industry." This documentary is the first in a series of industry-specific DVD's developed to assist tattoo artists, body piercers, studio owners and health officials gain a better understanding of proper infection control practices as they apply to the modification industry. This DVD has been researched, produced and filmed BY members of the modification industry, FOR members of the modification industry. This DVD is a must-have for any tattoo or piercing studio, and especially essential in studios where apprentices are being taught.
